Glogauair Second Round

I’ve just finsihed up my first term with Glogauair and entering my second. Been a great time and making some interesting progress with my artwork. Check out some samples below.

Glogauair Residency: First few weeks

I started my residency with Glogauair earlier this month. I started a smaller painting and also a new print for a potential fabric project. I have also been busy spreading my Glitter cat sticker over surfaces of Berlin. The Glogauair group listed Somos earlier this week and I also got to see some interesting installations and exhibitions at the converted Flughafen Tempelhof. So far been fun and making new friends. I’ll be here till March but will still have some exhibitions and projects go up in Alberta! My insta is a bit more alive than here but come back occasionally for updates.

Special thanks to my Funders: Canada Council for the Arts and Calgary Arts Development for funding this residency.

MAWA Residency

I just finished my residency with Mentoring Artists women’s art. It was an amazing experience, makes me question if I should move to Winnipeg. I wanted to do this residency to get away from current life and just re-focus on my practice. I was able to sketch again, I feel like I haven’t been able to for a few years and that has opened a creative well for me. As well I found some new avenue’s to explore with my practice. I am looking at how Sci fi, folklore and utopia’s relate to my identity as an artist. Now I can work towards re-structuring how I think about my artwork. I saw really cool artsy films with the Dave Barber cinematheque, saw some amazing art at the WAG, Plug in and Blinkers Blinkers. Got to meet up with old peers and friends and I took an intro into Blender course with Videopool. Very fun and productive time, and I have to thank all the volunteers and staff at MAWA and to Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) for giving me a grant to fund everything.

Cosmic Melody: Palimpshed Project

I recently completed a mural project with Palimpshed in Calgary. Located in the alley way behind Weeds Cafe in the NW Calgary. The mural incorporates past muralists Justin Scott Studio and the Wanderwell Collective. Curated by Terese Mullin it will be up all summer of 2023. I was inspired by the previous two muralists and thought of planets and a space theme. Science fiction romance is a new avenue I would like to explore in my practice and this was a great opportunity. I broke the shed into three parts and created an abstract comic of cosmic melodies.

Energy Futures: Reimagining Fire, The future of Energy

Check out the Energy Futures project and its book Reimagining Fire, curated and edited by Eveline Kolijn. My piece titled “Cling Wrap” is a collograph of both seran-wrap and grass turf that I chine collied together. You can purchase the book on amazon or other local Calgary disruptors.

Memory Lines Exhibition

My solo exhibition with the Helmut Space in Leipzig opens on May 20! Special thanks to Maeshelle West-Davies for allowing me to show. Opening is at 8pm on May 20 . Show runs till June 3rd 2022.

“What do comics do with, and to, memory and what does memory do to comics?” With a new body of artwork I am investigating the intersection of memory and comics. Specifically the role of comics in memory culture and comics’ ability to simulate or transmit memory. I have been studying the various ways fine-art/comics have interplayed, especially with abstract sequential art/comics. With the comic aspect I have been studying the various ways fine-art/comics have interplayed, especially with abstract sequential art/comics. For example, comics that are not bound to book format.
